ONE THING that worked…


I stumbled .reddit thread. that caught my attention.

Someone asked what was the “one thing” that made you lose weight?”

And this question had 5,400 answers (and counting).

Some of the responses involved changing the environment or changing the way they prepare their food:

“Pouring snacks into small bowls to eat. Suddenly I ate snacks.”

“I would prepare my regular meals and instead of putting them in two containers, I would divide them into four containers. I forced myself to only eat one container at each meal and tricked my brain into thinking it was all my money. “

Some changed what they ate:

“I found my favorite salad. It sounds dumb, but I’ve never craved a salad before, and having one I really like means I’ve been eating a lot of lettuce for weeks – it just snowballed from there, because I feel good and then I start craving it. Good.”

Others had a more comprehensive approach that included re-examining their relationship with food, hunger, and discomfort:

“Recognizing that it’s a lifestyle change, not a diet.”

“Accept pain. Expect to be short of breath and labored when you exercise, expect to feel sore when you lift, and expect to be hungry when you cut back. “

Some used apps to track their calories, which made them aware of how much they were eating:

“Using an app to track everything I ate. I realized that a lot of the “healthy” things I was eating, in most of the foods I was eating, were more energy-efficient than I thought. Just cutting back on certain foods helps.”

And some were made possible by the first push with medicine:

“I saw a doctor about my type 2 diabetes. I weighed 300 lbs and had a heart attack. I qualified for diabetes medication which also helps reduce my appetite. I started tracking calories and exercising. “

Some prioritize exercise over food:

“Having fun. I was eating a lot because I was tired. Coming home from work sitting on the couch makes it easy to eat like sh*t…

“Walking. Proving that I lost 45 lb in 7 months just by walking every night in circles. It was free and cheap, I went rain or shine even in a snow storm. Now I have a treadmill and walk around the house but it still feels like it was in the beginning. “

As we look at this list, reading thousands of comments from people who think about ‘one thing’ that changed their life, and how many of them differ, we can find some interesting facts.

3 Short Lessons We Can Learn

LESSON 1: “Success comes from failure to failure without losing focus.” -Winston Churchill.

The hardest part of being healthy is no losing hope when the alternative you are trying does not work. I bet everyone who shared their answer above, they tried several different methods to try to be fit. Hell, I bet they tried many of the things that worked for other people, until they found one that worked. to them.

What we can learn from this: “Hope is; .a warlike passion that destroys cynicism.,” and it’s good to hope that every failed attempt means one less way to try in the future.

For example, if you’ve tried Keto 5 times before and can’t stick, thank you! You’ve found a diet that doesn’t work yours.

If you can keep it .‘beta test’ ideas. of “I’ll see if it works for me,” you may just get the first domino to fall yours trip!

LESSON 2: Beware of Charlatans.

Spend enough time on social media, and eventually you will meet health and wellness professionals. These are the people who tell you that they only have it one solution to all your problems. They usually have a villain for all the bad things in the world (“its sugar! It’s carbs! It’s X ingredient!”).

And of course, when they are afraid to confuse you and scare you, they give you hope with their cheap unmanaged or unintelligent strategy.

As you can see from the examples above, there is no “one size fits all” answer to these issues. Each person is a unique individual with different baggage and triggers and pain points and experiences that make some responses a homerun and other responses may not be a trigger.

Which brings me to my third point!

LESSON THREE: All articles about fitness have three boring elements!

Although all of the “one thing” ways to get in shape are different, they all have a few things in common.

Good news? None of this material is subjective, personal, or speculative.

Access to 3 specific features:

  • Eating the right amount of calories for your goal weight
  • Finding some kind of physical activity
  • Making these two things part of a lifelong change.

Losing weight is not magic. It’s math and behavior change.

Any diet can work, if it puts us in a caloric deficit. We have .training customers. some are vegetarian, some go Keto, some count calories and some do intermittent fasting.

Our ability to transform food changes into a lifestyle we can live with is how we achieve success, and this looks different for everyone.

When it comes to lifestyle changes, many of the above solutions include finding ways to exercise regularly.

Remember: it’s okay if you don’t like to exercise. We weren’t made to love exercise! Especially if it’s something we don’t enjoy! We were designed to survive in an age of scarcity, NOT to thrive in an age of unlimited food.

So how do we make exercise a part of our lives?

We have to find a way .make exercise fun, rewarding, or important.:

  • Entertainment: Join a walking/running club with your friends, give it a try .trying to build..
  • Benefits: falling in love with .to be strong. and confidence and how you feel when you exercise.
  • Requirements: Pay in advance to the coach, park at the end of the parking lot, bike to work.

Remember that hope is a warrior’s mind.

We humans are incredibly flexible and changeable creatures.

Keep trying different methods, watch out for scammers, and don’t forget the basics!

And soon one day, you too may be sharing the first domino to fall that changed things forever.
