As a registered dietitian who likes to use MyFitnessPal – both for my own research and with my clients – I’ve seen how time constraints can make it difficult to cut down on regular meals. But the new MyFitnessPal Voice Logging feature makes the process simpler and easier for users.
For example, I’ve been using this app to track my breakfast: two scrambled eggs, a slice of whole wheat toast, chicken sausage, and avocado, and a cup of coffee.
Talking this into the program and reviewing it takes about 15 seconds—time that even the busiest people can afford!
Read on to learn more about the new MyFitnessPal Voice Logging feature and how to get started ASAP.
What is the Term Interest Rate?
Voice Logging is a Premium feature and new to the MyFitnessPal app. Not a Premium member? No problem! Try Premium free for 30 days.
This feature makes cutting multiple foods, foods, and sizes easy. Instead of typing and searching things, all you need is your voice (and a few taps).

- Step 4: If this is your first time using the app, you must allow MyFitnessPal to connect to your microphone, and give MyFitnessPal permission to use voice recognition.

Include brand names, a description of the size, and the food you want the items to go in (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks). You will know that this program is listening when the arrow turns blue.
- Step 6: When you’re done specifying your food, click the blue arrow.
- Step 7: Similar things will come naturally. From here, you can choose to delete an item, click “Retry”, or click to “Log” items and/or meals to your Diary.
Advantages of Using Text Input for Tracking
The Word Cuts feature offers several benefits for tracking food in MyFitnessPal:
- It helps to estimate the size of the sections: It is difficult to know how much food you eat in ounces, grams, or other units of measurement. Now, describe your arrangement using your hand. For example, “I ate chicken for lunch that was the size of my fist.” Or “I had a handful of blueberries for a snack.” (See our helpful guide to portion sizes below!)
- It saves you time: Clipping replaces the need to write down food items to search, which can make it easier to keep track of your meals and snacks. You can also list multiple foods at once by describing your food out loud. Even better, you can register for multiple meals at once! At the end of the day, open your app, click Voice Log from the log menu, and record breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Review, revise as needed, and write!
- It allows you to enter the destination: Multitasking? No problem. This feature is great for making sure you’ve recorded your food, even if you only have a few seconds.
- It can promote consistency: Finding a meal plan that fits easily into your routine can help you stay consistent. And the more consistent you are with your healthy habits, the more likely you are to achieve your goals.
Questions About Entering Words into MyFitnessPal
You can register the foods and drinks available in the MyFitnessPal database (which is one of the largest). Body weight, exercise, and favorite foods and recipes may not be included in the vocabulary at this time. Water can be ingested, but only as part of breakfast, lunch, dinner, or as a snack.
It works best when you describe what you ate (or drank), the size of the meal, and the food you ate (or drank). For example, “I had one cup of Greek yogurt, drizzled honey, a handful of blueberries, and a small cup of coffee for breakfast.”
Voice Input is available for iOS and Android devices but may require an update to be compatible with all versions. To make sure you’re using the latest app, visit the app store.
No, the MyFitnesspal Voice Logging feature requires an internet connection to process voice commands.
Currently, the Voice Logging feature is available in English and is limited to the US market.
